Who we are

Women in love with the Eucharist in the footsteps of St Gertrude

We, the Sacramentine Sisters of Bergamo, wish to make our life a prayer of continuous adoration to Jesus present in the Eucharist. We contemplate Him every day and pray for the whole world. From Him we learn to love and live our education service and apostolate/mission with care, faith and passion.

The Sacramentione Sisters

We are women who welcome the Eucharistic Presence of Christ with wonder and gratitude and want to be his reflection in our times.

In our prayer and life, like St Gertrude, our foundress, we are committed to be “Little Sacraments”, signs of God's love.

Everywhere we spread the love that Jesus gives us with burning charity.

Our roots

Our roots go back to a dream and an intuition: St Geltrude Comensoli's dream of founding a religious institute dedicated to adoration; and the intuition of Pope Leo XIII who suggested that she dedicate herself to the human and spiritual care of young girls, especially workers.

Thus, on 15 December 1882 in Bergamo, the first adoration before the picture of the Sacred Heart began. The beginnings are humble, modest and the hearts are full of enthusiasm and trepidation.

Over the years, our Religious Family has opened up to the needs of today, especially in the field of education and mission.

In the original drawing, two sections can be identified: the upper one, with the Sacred Heart, represents Heaven and is separated from the lower one by a curved line representing the Earth.

Some doves are tied to the earth; others fly free in the sky.

Mother Gertrude herself explained the meaning of this sketch.

Starting from this sketch, we developed this coat of arms in the past.

The world appears here too, but the doves are all flying upwards, where the sun of the Eucharist shines.

Initially it was accompanied by this inscription:

“Accedite ad Eum et Illuminamini”

From Psalm 34:6: ‘Look at him and you will be radiant’.

TODAY, THE LOGO OF THE INSTITUTE

Our Institute today presents itself with a logo that can also speak the language of social media, a new ground of evangelisation for the humanity of the 21st century.

The themes represented are, the Eucharist, Adoration, the light, and the fire of love.

As our Foundress taught us, the Eucharist is a school of charity!
